How did your Genée experience benefit you personally or professionally? The training, the performance opportunity, the networking, and the friendships made are all amazing benefits from participating in the Genée. I would definitely recommend the competition to others. Would you recommend the competition to others? ![]() I was full of worries and fears and it is so important as a young person to just jump in! Yes it may not be what you expect, but chances are you will gain so much from doing something out of your comfort zone. Just sign up! I hesitated for a long time whether or not to register for the competition and I am so thankful I did. Do you have any advice for future candidates? One of my fondest memories from the competition is meeting and making new friends from all over the world. What is your fondest memory from the competition? The exposure to some of the best young dancers in the world pushed me to be the best that I could be. Watching and learning from other people is such a useful technique. I learned an extraordinary amount from my fellow competitors. From start to finish the experience was unlike anything I had experienced before and I am so grateful I had the opportunity to attend and meet such wonderful people. The classes, the performance experience, the knowledge gained from teachers and peers, and the lasting friendships made are all part of why the competition was such a memorable experience. The value and experience I gained from participating in the Genée was unforgettable. Recently she performed at the Tokyu Theatre Orb in Broadway Christmas Wonderland where she shared her joy and passion for dance in Japan. Laura has now taken on the role of aerialist in her shows at sea and is seen flying high over audiences night after night. Upon graduation, Laura embarked on a six year career with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines dancing and travelling the world. Laura then went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Performance Dance from Ryerson University. In 2009 she was a recipient of the coveted Solo Seal Award. ![]() In 2008 she participated with international contestants in the Genée International Ballet Competition. Laura Wright grew up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada where she studied multiple styles of dance from a young age.
